Alpinist Well-Known Member Oct 1, Jun 17, 64 USA. Has anyone done a direct comparison of the AudioQuest Niagara vs.I'm not sure why you think this.

There are many variables in AC power, including how well the utility maintains its system. Living in a rural area is no guarantee of clean power. In farming communities, equipment used by farmers such as milking machines can be as much of an influencing factor as manufacturing equipment in urban areas.

I have dedicated lines and I was planning to use a Niagara with my digital equipment in one dedicated line and a Niagara on another line to power my Amp, Preamp etc. Or would it be advantages to just plug the Niagara still with my digital gear plugged into it into the Niagara ?

LOG IN. Anyone have any experience with either of these two Products? I find them intriguing and might consider buying one.

Joe - "IF" your power supply is particularly "dirty" they may help. Furutech has a couple of distribution boxes without filters that work very well, just because of the quality of the outlets.

What will provide benefits are - effective power cables. You do normally hear improvements, but as I said, it's mostly due to the better quality outlets in them. Much will depend upon your locale. Do you live in or near a major U.

If so, one of these models will be right for you. If you live far outside of a U. Happy Listening! I live in a suburb of Chicago.

AudioQuest Niagara 7000 vs. 5000

When I am at the manufacturer's website I am lead to believe, that regardless of the ac noise, these to units would impart a sonic improvement to my equipment.

I read a favorable review in a print mag about months ago about the positive effect the had on a system. The new AudioQuest Storm Series power cables came on the market at the end ofin the wake of the Niagara series power supply products. Both series have been designed by Garth Powell, formerly as a power specialist at Furman Sound, who has amply earned his stripes in the professional audio market.

Since Garth joined the AudioQuest design team inhe received Bill Low carte blanche from owner, to cast his knowledge about the behavior of electricity into unrivaled products. In order to make the technology used in these power conditioners work optimally, new power cords were ultimately needed, and with the Storm Series, after many years, the NRG Series was added to the highly successful market. Writing about power cables and power conditioners.

Because there are plenty of objectivists who like to shave their teeth on reviewers who venture to claim something else than that electricity is simply electricity. Whether that flow behaves the same under all circumstances. I would not want to give the technicians who claim that the transformer provides sufficient protection against mains pollution in any hi-fi device.

However, we will not be conducting this discussion again. But also that I have had very different experiences with active power care products. It is in particular that additional dynamics problem that, according to Garth Powell, has been solved at the Niagara Series. I would like to show that by means of a listening experience, and so I set off with high expectations. I usually prefer the familiar environment of my own listening room, but in a listening session where a lot of power cable needs to be changed, a tube amp is not the ideal partner due to the constant switching on and off.

In order to fully establish the effect of the innovations in both the Niagara Series and the Storm Series, I therefore gratefully accepted the invitation from AudioQuest to have the listening session take place in their special demo room in the Roosendaal EU Headquarters. The set I was going to listen to consisted of the Primare Pre60 preamplifier with built-in streaming module and the matching A60 power amp.

The three products in the Niagara Series for power supply assume as low an internal resistance as possible, for an uninterrupted flow of power, and the cabling used is fully controlled in the correct direction. They all offer an active and very broadband filtering of the electricity coming from the mains, with the aid of the patented Ground-Noise Dissipation System and the Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation Technology.

This concerns the prevention, and the collection and dissipation of unwanted noise and distortion from the cable, which penetrates in the form of electromagnetic radiation and radio radiation.

But also think for example of switching pulses whether or not caused by industry. The Niagara and Niagara also offer Dielectric-Biased AC Isolation Transformers in addition to these two filter systems, and a unique Transient Power Correction, a type of turbo reservoir that allows power to be added during longer, more demanding, highly dynamic passages in the music.

I was very curious about the latter effect, because all the articles I have read about it now have a lot of emphasis on it. In a positive sense, I mean. The science of AC power delivery is not a simple one; it demands focus, and the devil is in the details.

Although we have seen a substantial increase in dynamics from much of our audio software, the loudspeakers we employ to reproduce them are often no more efficient than they were two to four decades ago. Through differential sample tests and spectrum analysis, it can be proven that up to a third of a high-resolution low-level audio signal can be lost, masked, or highly distorted by the vast levels of noise riding along the AC power lines that feed our components.

For years, we have all been witness to the same, seemingly endless audiophile debates: valves versus transistors; analog versus digital; can cables really make a difference? When it comes to noise filtering for AC power, many approaches can yield meaningful results. However, these approaches may also impart ringing, current compression, and non-linear distortions that can render the cure worse than the disease!

Consistency is key. We should never accept superior resolution in one octave, only to suffer from masking effects a half-octave away and ringing artifacts two octaves from there. The Niagara represents over 20 years of exhaustive research and proven AC power products designed for audiophiles, broadcast engineers, and professional-audio applications.

A great system is built from a solid foundation, and that foundation starts with power. We welcome you to experience the Niagara and hear firsthand the remarkable results of highly optimized power management: startlingly deep silences, stunning dynamic freedom, outstanding retrieval of ambience cues, and gorgeous delineation of instruments and musicians in space.

Thanks, Garth! Download specification. Thank you!

Team leader for AC power products is one Garth Powell. It would be well over a year before I would enjoy first-hand experience of what a Niagara could do once placed in an audio system.

Proceedings only become instructive when one piece of gear is swapped out for another. Two are better than one. At Hifi im Hinterhof in Kreuzberg, we were served the latter. More so than when the Accuphase disc spinner was moved from Niagara to Niagara Time to dig out your tin foil hat. This tale is a little more bizarre.

Six power sockets with one designed to specifically meet the variable current demands of the amplifier — more on this later.

At the behest of the audience, Helwegen repeated the demo, this time jumping directly from the Niagara burn to the first made with the Alesis connected to the wall with a stock power cable. At this point, some readers will find their interest piqued, others will remain indifferent and a small minority will begin plotting conspiracy theories: that manufacturers are liars, perpetrators of trickery, all in direct pursuit of the bigger bucks.

Conveniently ignoring the potential for a major dent to years of reputations built, our conspiracy theorists reason that anyone falling for such alleged sleight of hand is a fool, conned by the audio conmen. The answer, for them alas, is irrelevant. A closed mind begets a closed wallet. Who knew that seeing ghosts could be so financially advantageous?

A conspiracy theory about conspiracy theorists? With a clear lack of evidence on both fronts, either both theories are true; or both are false.

We trust in our previous experiences: that the plane takes off and lands without incident. No technical paper required. Similarly, in the world of hi-fi, we readily accept the audible differences between loudspeakers or amplifiers.

Fresh experiences called out from the outskirts of the audiophile collective remain contentious because their scarcity can cause uncertainty. Consumers are keen to eliminate uncertainty.

The antidote? Hard facts — or an explanation. My job is to relay my listening experiences. I look to engineers to explain the whys and wherefores.

At home, I call the shots. I know the room, the music, the associated hardware. Two words that lingered in my iPhone listening notes were avidity and focus. When complexity knocks, how many of us can stay the distance?

Certainly not me and probably not you.

Shut up and listen: AudioQuest’s Niagara 3000

Their circuits are crude by comparison, less sensitive to electrical noise pollution, but our network streamers, DACs and amplifiers can sound hard or washed-out when face with a steady stream of pollutants. A pair of 2-RU ears are included for custom installers to mount the Niagara in a rack.

For those of us who are satisfied that hearing is believing, how might we audition the new Niagara? Like the other models in the Niagara range and the smaller PowerQuest units, we could buy via Amazon for a day home demo, visit our local AudioQuest dealer, hit them up for a home-loaner or drop into the AudioQuest room at our next hi-fi show.

And audition space preferences are where we are headed next…. Further information: AudioQuest. Audioquest Niagara John currently lives in Berlin where creates videos and podcasts and pens written pieces for Darko. Follow John on YouTube or Instagram. Switch skin. Search Search for: Search.

Time then to do as I did and shut up and listen. Audio is a member of EISA.Let's face it, AC line power is the bedrock of every audio system. Not only is this singularly common commodity a fundamentally important component, vital for powering all gear in a system, the quality of that AC power line happens to significantly influence the performance capability of every component in each HiFi rig.

The bad news is that the integrity of what is delivered in the home by the AC power outlet is subject to a myriad of influences, all of which are more than likely to be detrimental when it comes to powering audio equipment. Unreliable line voltage stability, noise, distortion, radio frequency contamination, are just some of the most commonly blatant problems. The good news is that the audio industry has been acutely aware of this AC power line contamination vexation for some time now, and today a new field dedicated to the purification of AC power lines is in full bloom.

We are at a point where AC line conditioners are now considered to be essential audio system components, aiding audiophiles in their unremitting quest of achieving ever better sound reproduction in the home. Unfortunately, in the real world, evaluating line conditioners is not a cut and dry endeavor. AC power line blight varies all over the map in intensity and complexity, where highly populated areas such as large cities take the brunt.

It is there that appliances and equipment that pollute the AC power line are present at disturbingly high levels, and appear randomly distributed. Given the random nature of this scenario, we must recognize that whatever observations and evaluations take place, any ensuing appraisals should be viewed only with respect to the particular AC line conditions at the review site.

What is desperately needed is to establish a set of standards and definitive measurements so we can gauge and assess the severity of the AC power pollution issue.

For example, when we look at amplifier performance we consider distortion levels. And in the digital realm, jitter levels are of paramount importance. Standardization would go a long way towards clearing up the uncertainty in the hit or miss setting we have now. More importantly, it would greatly simplify the process of choosing the most effective AC power conditioner for each situation. It's not that the conditioning products are lacking effectiveness, it's just that that the befouled conditions for which they are potentially needed are not clearly identified.

The pessimist in me, however, doubts that anything this practical and unified will come to pass, being that a large part of the audio industry is diseased by NIH -- N ot I nvented H ere. Nevertheless, my hope is that in the near future someone will at least come up with a practical device that will allow us to appraise the AC power line state of contamination, greatly simplifying choosing and implementing appropriate AC line purifying equipment.

At this point let me touch on a particular concept, something very germane when line conditioners are discussed: there is no such thing as "new" information. While we all are in search of that elusive "more," let us be fully aware that it is simply impossible to improve on the quality of the input signal after it has entered a system.

Everything that happens along the way can only degrade the purity of that initial intelligence. The trick is to keep the integrity of the signal to be as close as possible to its original unaltered state during its journey through the system component chain. When a reference is made to "discovering" a bigger soundstage, or more dynamics, or better intonation, all that is taking place is that we are hearing more of the information contained in the input signal, because the interference that was compromising the purity of that signal has been virtually eliminated.

And this is what the core concept of a line conditioner is all about. They are devices that deliver cleaned up power by deterging the AC power line. Powered by this purified energy, the audio system components have the freedom to perform to their inherent high performance capability.

But there is more. The line conditioner happens to occupy a unique position in the hierarchy of the overall system makeup when we consider what each individual component contributes to keeping the signal pure. While components in a system appear in a series arrangement, a line conditioner acts in a global manner since it affects every system component that is powered by it. It is this all-inclusive influence that puts the line conditioner in a singularly significant position.

This rosy situation has a caveat, however. Since the audio world contains a wide variety of devices, it is unrealistic to expect that every available system component will benefit from purified AC power. It could be that some designers include their own means of dealing with contaminated AC power.

There are also products that are inherently not as sensitive to the supplied AC power purity. Approach one uses filters to clean up the AC line contaminants.
